I never learned music in the conventional way. For me, music begins with listening, curiosity, creativity and the courage to express yourself.

As a child I started playing the piano by ear and later discovered many other instruments. I do prefer the guitar because i can take it almost anywhere, and my favourite musical moments often happen outside—on journeys, or in places that inspired me.

Over the years I’ve taught music to many different people.

What I’ve learned is that no two people learn music in the same way.

Rather than following a curriculum, I try to discover what keeps people inspired.

I don’t believe that we need a deep knowledge of music theory to become good musicians. 
Theory can certainly be useful, but I see it as a tool—not as the destination.
